Asian Tuna Burgers with Sesame Cilantro Slaw

Asian Tuna Burgers with Sesame Cilantro Slaw

asian tuna burgerI feel like tuna gets a bad rap. It’s like the seafood hamburger helper. Don’t now what to eat and need a fast dinner? canned tuna. oh you fancy? flavored tuna packets for you girl. Full transparency here, I used to kill some tuna packets in college. Back in my days of unhealthy healthy eating (that’s where you’re so obsessed with eating healthy that it becomes unhealthy) I would eat tuna packets IN CLASS, omg I’m awful I know. I had to eat every 4 hours you know or I would spontaneously combust <enter sarcasm>.

Anyways, now I prefer my tuna rare and in sushi rolls or tacos but I’m glamming up canned tuna with these burgers. My husband says it’s an insult to America to call them burgers sooo call them pattis if you want. You’ll want to use a good quality tuna, I used Wild Planet albacore tuna. I paired these with roasted broccoli that I drizzled with a little sesame oil and garlic but I really could have eaten the entire bowl of this sesame cilantro slaw on the side. We also jazzed ours up a little with a little siracha aioli and sliced avocado.

Ingredients

Burgers:

  • 2 cans albacore tuna
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon coconut flour
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp minced garlic

Slaw:

  • 1/2 cup purple cabbage, chopped
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. stevia

To Serve:

  • Avocado
  • Sirachia aioli
  • Whole Wheat buns

Instructions

1.Combine all ingredients for slaw and set aside to absorb flavor, or place in fridge.

2.In a large bowl combine all ingredients for burgers and mix well with hands.

3. Form 4 pattis (press tightly so they stay together well) you can also place in the fridge to firm up for a few minutes.

4. Heat a girll pan or skillet to medium, and spray with cooking oil or lightly drizzle with avocado oil.

5. Cook burgers 3 minutes each side or until golden brown. Be very careful when flipping so they do not fall apart.

6. Remove and assemble burgers with slaw mixture and any other desired toppings
